Meeting at Night
The gray sea and the long black land；
And the yellow half-moon large and low；
And the startled little waves that leap
In fiery ringlets from their sleep,
As I gain the cove with pushing prow,
And quench its speed i’ the slushy sand．
Then a mile of warm sea-scented beach
Three fields to cross till a farm appears；
A tap at the pane, the quick sharp scratch
And blue spurt of a lighted match,
And a voice less loud, thro’ its joys and fears,
Than the two hearts beating each to each!
夜會
長岸黑黝黝，
大海灰濛濛；
半月黃又大，
遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)掛低空。
我駕小船來，
疾馳多奮勇；
船頭驚細(xì)浪，
環(huán)環(huán)映月紅。
終于進(jìn)港灣，
船滯淤沙中；
棄船登沙岸，
海風(fēng)暖融融。
心頭情切切，
腳步快如風(fēng)；
沙灘一片片，
田野一壟壟。

火柴輕輕摖，
脆響急匆匆；
只見藍(lán)光閃，

但聽輕聲喚，
驚喜又惶恐；

情比夜色濃。
羅伯特·布朗寧(Robert Browning 1812—1889)英國詩人 詩的標(biāo)題為 “夜會”,可是通篇都只是描述前去赴約的`過程,直到最后也未直接顯示 “會面” 的鏡頭。但詩的末行 “the two hearts beating each to each (兩顆心相對著跳動)” 這朦朧的一筆卻間接地點明了夜會的高潮。譯作結(jié)尾借景言情,與原作異曲同工。
